Ibi

Children's book, text and illustration

The children's book 'Alles wird anders...

und das ist gut so. (engl. Everything will be different... and that's a good thing.)'

deals with the topic of 'change' in connection with a transforming family structure due to the birth of a sibling. The main character, a little girl named Ibi, gave the project its name.

Tasks

research, narrative design,

artwork, documentation

Background

The book is intended for children aged 2-4 and consists of 15 double-page spreads with illustrations and short, simple texts. It is designed to be read and looked at with a parent or caregiver. It provides an opportunity for further discussion about the new situation. Ideally, it will help to improve communication between child and parent.

Although children can perceive changes clearly, they may not have the skills yet to put them in context or articulate the emotions they experience. The situations addressed in the book are therefore as closely as possible to the perception of young children.

Storyline

The story is about a little girl called Ibi and her family. The story describes Ibi's everyday life and the changes that occur as a result of her mother's pregnancy. Ibi's overwhelming situation reaches a peak in an emotional outburst, which is then resolved by the first meeting of the siblings and the encouraging words of her parents. Ibi finally begins accepting the change.

Inspiration

The children's book is a solo project and was developed as 'Praxisprojekt (M.A.)'. Both story and artwork were designed by me. The idea and many elements of the story were inspired by my nieces, who lent their names for this book.
