Scientific work

Research, analyses and other work

In addition to project work I also have many years of experience in scientific work. This involves not only research and the inclusion of relevant literature, but also the analytical skills to understand complex issues and to point out connections.

Below are a few examples.

Tasks

research, analysis, documentation,

expert interview, field research,

qualitative content analysis, etc.

Game analysis

In my 'Ludology (M.A.)' course, I conducted a comprehensive game analysis of Overwatch. Utilising Roberto Dillon's A.G.E. model (2012), I delved into the game's fundamental mechanics (Actions), its Gameplay, and the resultant gaming Experience. Dillon's model also encompasses key elements for successful games, including 'six emotions' and 'eleven instincts'. Furthermore, one of the distinctive aspects of Overwatch is its rich lore, which is skilfully communicated across a variety of media platforms.

Platform analysis

As part of the course 'Theory Project (M.A.)' I analysed the Twitch platform's social structure, focusing on the interplay between online community and fandom. In this context, I defined the concept of the 'social hybrid medium' to elaborate on the relationship between streamers and viewers. The analysis also considered the role of Web 2.0, which is characterised by its strong participatory culture and co-creation.

Film analysis

As part of the course 'Media Theory (M.A.)' I analysed the film 'Run Lola Run' focusing on the aspect of 'time.' Drawing parallels with video games, the analysis examines the role of Lola as the unstoppable protagonist and the role of time as her antagonist. The strong symbolism, the various media used and the achieved immersion are also subjects of the analysis.
